Welcome back to JASA! On February 4th, 2022 we made our very own Ema wishes to hang up for a Happy and lucky New Year! Japanese Ema are small wooden wishing plaques hung in Japanese Shinto shrines. They have been used for centuries to send prayers. People purchase a small plaque, write their wishes on them, and dedicate them to the gods. All sorts of pictures are displayed on ema plaques. Very common is the current year’s zodiac: this year’s zodiac is the tiger! Our JASA members drew their own tigers and the kanji for tiger 「虎」to celebrate. We also folded cranes in preparation for Taste of Japan, which is March 5th!
